To register for a Skyline College course that has a prerequisite, students must demonstrate that they have successfully completed the prerequisite course with a grade of "C" or higher.
Use this form if you have successfully completed the equivalent prerequisite course at a regionally accredited college or university outside of the SMCCCD (San Mateo County Community College District); or if you have successfully passed an Alternate Placement Exam with the minimum passing score that is equivalent to the prerequisite course. An unofficial transcript must be submitted and must clearly show your name and your student id number.
Students who attend a UC or CSU may refer to assist.org to find their course information as it matches to Skyline College's courses. If the course being used to meet prerequisite is not considered equivalent on assist.org, students may submit their request as a Prerequisite Challenge Petition. A cover letter and unofficial transcript is required for a Prereq Challenge request.
If your prerequisite is still "in progress," please complete the Prerequisite Challenge Petition. As part of your supporting documentation for your challenge you will submit a cover letter, a mid-semester progress report, and an unofficial copy of your transcript.
Instructions:
1) Complete all sections of this online request.
2) Upload your supporting documents:
a. If you completed a course outside of the San Mateo County Community College District (Skyline, Cañada, or College of San Mateo), you must submit all pages of your unofficial transcript (partial transcripts will not be accepted). The unofficial transcripts must show your name, student ID, and the name of the college on each page; or
b. If you completed an Alternate Placement Exam (AP, IB, CAASPP, SAT, ACT), submit a copy of your results.
3) Click the Submit Form button.
The Skyline College Counseling Division reviews all approvals for this petition. Please allow 3-5 business days for review to be completed. During the peak period of registration, the volume of requests increases which may impact response time.
